Patria Jacobs “Silver Lining”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Patria Jacobs’ song “Silver Lining,” which is the title track from her forthcoming album due to be available in spring 2026. The album was co-produced by Patria Jacobs and Marc Doten (Shelby Lynne); mixed by Marc Doten, and mastered by Mark Chalecki.
If Patria’s name rings a bell, it might be because she’s part of Rubyfish. Patria gathered some of the best of the best musicians together for this one. “Silver Lining” is Patria Jacobs on lead and backing vocals and acoustic guitar; J’Anna Jacoby (Rod Stewart, Glen Campbell) on fiddle; Brian Whelan (Dwight Yoakam, Mike Stinson) on lead electric and slide guitar, Jim Laspesa (Brian Wilson Band, Dave Davies, Susanna Hoffs, The Muffs) on drums and backing vocals; former Rubyfish bassist Derrick Anderson (Bangles, Marshall Crenshaw, The Smithereens); and Michelle Olsen. Mac Doten and Maryanne Window on backing vocals.
This song is a metaphor for life, presented in jocular style and the message and the rousing music are both relatable from start to finish. First she found a golden ticket, put it in her pocket, then it was used as a tissue, and on it went. There’s monster fiddle trading off with killer guitar riffs with the oh-so-relatable “My golden ticket melted at the junction / I see a silver lining.” Ah, yes.
Patria tells us, “I wanted to hear dueling instruments in a Charlie Daniels “Devil Went Down…” kind of way – getting my friends J’Anna Jacoby and Brian Whelan on the song together ended up being a golden ticket.”
And of the song’s background, she says : “I slipped out of my ex’s Silver Lake flat early one morning after a long night and meandered back to my Highland Park bungalow. As I wound around the reservoir, a flood of memories of debauched evenings and street festivals mashed together. At a light, I pulled out a scrap of paper and scribbled down the phrases that came streaming out. A few years later I had a vivid dream where I heard the song in my head with the lyrics playing out in cinematic form: the Sunset Junction festival, a cacophony of loud bands playing around me, the glamorous Silver Lake legend Sean de Lear throwing his head back in laughter near the colorfully lit carnival rides. I flew out of bed and grabbed a guitar to write down the chords from the dream. Every time I play the tune I feel like I’m at the Junction where local characters and vivid personalities appear in my brain’s scrapbook of moving picture memories.”
