BobKat- “Sweet Solitude”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of BobKat’s song “Sweet Solitude” from their forthcoming album Longing For Afterglow, which is set for release on June 13th. Longing For Afterglow was produced by musical stalwart Joe Henry (Hayes Carll, Bonnie Raitt), and mixed and mastered by Jason Richmond. BobKat, for those who don’t know, is the duo of Bob Davoli and Kathleen Parks, who are launching the album with a full band in the mix.
Musicians on “Sweet Solitude” are Bob Davoli on vocals and acoustic guitar, and Kathleen Parks on vocals and violin, with Levon Henry on alto saxophone; Bb and alto clarinets; David Piltch on upright bass; Patrick Warren on piano, pump organ, Chamberlin, additional keyboards; with special guest Julian Lage on electric guitar.
From the outset, this song unfolds in a lovely fashion, as the initial notes play gently, and Bob’s fluid vocals sing an homage to his guitar: “your resonance is as delicious as a melody sung in tune,” while subtly, Kathleen’s vocals and then fluid violin merge into the sonic blend. Nice and easy, this is eminently listenable and is also the fruition of a unique and whimsical songwriting idea.
Bob tells us that “This is a love song whereby the guitar is anthropomorphized with human characteristics.”
