Jim White and Trey Blake – “Rushing in Waves”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Jim White and Trey Blake’s song “Rushing In Waves,”  from their forthcoming Precious Bane, which is due to release on January 31 via Fluff and Gravy Records. Precious Bane was engineered by Joe Watson and Jim White, and mixed and mastered by John Keane.

Folks surely know who Jim is, but you might wonder: what’s the backstory on the collaboration and who is Trey Blake?  Trey is the true form of the “impoverished artist” paradigm, having met Jim by chance one night while Jim was on tour, and Trey offering him a book to check out (entitled Precious Bane), which led to a friendship and ultimately to musical collaboration and, now, this forthcoming album ready to offer the world later this month.

“Rushing in Waves” is Trey Blake on acoustic guitar and lead vocals;  Jim White on backing vocals, keyboards, timpani, and bells; and Robert Exon on acoustic guitar, lead guitar, and backing vocals.

The foreboding video was created by Jim White.

As Trey put it: “To whom does one turn when Doomed Love is the only variety on offer in this realm of being?”  In “Rushing in Waves” Trey’s vocals are haunting and unique with a twist of darkness as this song unfolds with spells and demons in pursuit on the wind and two souls coming together once briefly – a poisonous affair, left behind. The result is a piece of art and an ominous acknowledgement of life, love and pain.
