Nick Taylor – “Dead Land Future”

Americana Highways presents this video premiere of Nick Taylor’s song “Dead Land Future” from his recently release album Not Alone.  The album was produced by William Gawley; engineered and mixed by Bryce Roberts; and mastered by Mike Monseur.

“Dead Land Future” is Nicholas Taylor Wimberg on lead vocals; Wayne Killius on drums; Dave Francis on bass;  Pat McGrath on acoustic guitar;  David Flint on baritone guitar and mandolin; Chris Nole on piano and keys; and Deanie Richardson (Patty Loveless, Ry Cooder) on fiddle.

The video was directed by William Gawley; produced by Michelle Robertson, with Austin Boylen as director of photography.  Appearing in the video are Nick on guitar and vocals, Deanie Richardson on fiddle; Dan Kozlowski on drums; and Rhees Williams on upright bass.

Heartland farmlands, strings played by musicians in a dive bar, and a forlorn song of destruction and unchecked development are the focal points of this piece. The painful, moving song serves as a backdrop for this video and serve up the sentiment that breaks all of our hearts for its truth: “I’m looking for a new way to survive.”

The video for “Dead Land Future” mirrors the story of the song, which was inspired by farm work I did in Austin. I’d been working on farms on and off while pursuing a degree studying the loss of Texas farmland and the song blends those two experiences. It tells the story of overworking the land, losing land to development, and losing yourself in someone else’s dream. – Nick Taylor
