South For Winter – “Underneath the Blood Moon”

Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of South for Winter’s song “Underneath the Blood Moon.” This song was recorded, edited, mixed, and produced by Matt Leigh, and produced with South for Winter. It was engineered by Grant Wilson and Matt Leigh; mastered by Mauricio Gargel; and recorded at Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville. Melodies and lyrics were written by Danielle Stone (Cichon), and arranged by Alexander Stradal, Danielle Stone, and Nicholas Stone.

“Blood Moon” is Alexander Stradal on cello and bass; Christopher Kearney on drums and percussion; Danielle Cichon on vocals and acoustic guitar; and Nicholas Stone on vocals, electric guitar, and resonator guitar.

The video was directed, filmed and edited by K Enagonio, with pyrotechnics by Michelle Reppert. South for Winter is performing.

Right on time for Halloween, this song expresses fervently the feverishness of being trapped within madness. In tuxes and a wedding dress, and with eerie Western sounds and a haunting cello, in the video the band recounts the tale of being locked into the asylum, and then, run! “Barefoot in the garden … run, run, as the madness takes me.” Get ready to listen and shake off the chills.

With the music video for ‘Underneath the Blood Moon’, we really wanted to portray the intensity of the song. We loved working with K Enagonio because they appreciated the story behind the song, and really portrayed that feeling of ‘going mad’ through the camera work and editing. It lines up especially well at the end of the song, as we sing the ‘run’ section. We’re really proud of how the video performance and the song give you that same intense, hair-prickling feeling. – Dani Stone
