Jamie Collins – “Where I Want To Be”
Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Jamie Collins’ song “Where I Want to Be,” from her forthcoming album set to be released later this year. “Where I Want to Be” was produced by Jamie Collins; recorded at Wesley Easter’s studio in Cana, Virginia and at Classic Recording Studio in Bristol, Virginia; and mixed and mastered by Jake Dwyer of Shape Studios in Jonesborough, Tennessee.
The song features Jamie Collins on lead vocals, guitar, bass, and shaker; DaShawn Hickman on pedal steel; and Blake Collins on mandolin.
A tribute to her own individuality, “Where I Want to Be,” displays an artist carving out her own place in the world and being satisfied with where she is after overcoming hardships. A testament to Collins’ endurance, the song captures a woman’s reclamation – taking control of the life that she has been given and living it on her own terms.
The music video was filmed by Kevin Combs at the historic Fries Theater in Fries, Virginia, a venue that is a part of The Crooked Road, Virginia’s Heritage Music Trail. The video features Collins playing and singing surrounded by a band consisting of Lu Furtado on bass, Blake Collins on mandolin, Stephen Reese on shaker, and DaShawn Hickman on pedal steel. Dancers, Martha Spencer and Mason Winfree, two-step to the tune on the theater’s dance floor.
I wanted to have my friends join me in the video because they are all strong figures in my life. The dancers are two of my best friends. We have traveled many places together and I look forward to many more adventures with them. Lu Furtado is someone I have known for many years through attending the Galax Old Time Fiddlers’ Convention. Lu is an amazing artist, and we have a lot of fun hanging out and making music together. DaShawn Hickman is a well-known musician through the Piedmont Triad and his pedal steel playing is truly majestic. Blake is a musician that I have looked up to my whole life. He and I have had more opportunities recently to make more music together through a newly formed group called Bristol Lightning. I am currently working on more recordings with The Blue Ridge Girls (a trio featuring Collins, Martha Spencer, and Brett Morris). I plan on releasing a couple of more singles over the next year and completing another album with my original works. – Jamie Collins
