Mary Lou Fulton – Many More of Us

Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of Mary Lou Fulton’s song “Many More of Us,” which was produced, arranged, engineered and mixed by Rob Seals of Sound Boutique Studios in Los Angeles.  It was mastered by Reuben Cohen of Lurssen Mastering.

“Many More of Us” is Mary Lou Fulton on lead vocals; Rob Seals on guitar; Sean Hurley on bass; Ryan Brown on drums and percussion; and Annette Adler and Karen Turner on harmony vocals.

This video was created by experimental digital and video artist Nancy Razk. There are pictures of Mary Lou sprinkled throughout the video, including in the opening where she is chalking the street.  The songs begins with “You tell me we live in the land of the free, except when it comes to my body,” and it’s a true protest song, complete with a catchy rhythm vibe, hand claps and a powerful sense of what it feels like to fight for rights. Especially when there’s “many more of us.”

When the Supreme Court overturned Roe vs Wade, it felt like a slap in the face. Right away, I wanted to write a song about it, but I couldn’t figure out how to channel my rage in a useful way. Then voters in deep red Kansas surprised everyone by voting to uphold abortion rights, and the same thing happened in six more states. This uprising is what inspired the song’s title, “Many More of Us,” because most Americans believe decisions about having children belong in our hands, not the government’s. This song is a rocker that’s different from my usual folk-roots style and I love how the groove and the message came together. In this election year, it’s time to to stand up for our freedom. We’re the majority, we have the power and we need to act like it. – Mary Lou Fulton
