and Arcellus Sykes on bowed and pizzicato double bass.
As Jordan Crosby Lee tells us about this song: “My dad died of brain cancer in 2020. COVID was raging, and I was 1,300 miles away from my family. It was a horrible time for a lot of folks. My dad, whom we affectionately called Butchie, was from New York, and his dad had been a Brooklyn Dodgers fan. Butchie stuck with the team after their move to LA. On the other hand, my mom, my baby sister, and I were all from Dallas, so we pulled for the Texas Rangers. But in 2020, all three of us became Dodgers fans in his honor. That year they won the World Series for the first time since the 1980s, and a new tradition was born. My family now watches every Dodgers’ game, texting one another on the family group chat dedicated specifically for Dodgers baseball. We’re probably closer now than we’ve ever been, and I don’t believe that would be the case without the Dodgers bringing us together after Dad’s death. This song is a reminder that even the horrible moments in your life can lead to something unexpectedly redemptive and beautiful, so don’t close your eyes, or you might miss it.”
“Good or bad, it’ll all fly by.” The message of this song will remind you of the fleeting nature of life and the looming spectre of mortality, in a gently played, harmoniously sung approach. Releasing today on the 6 year anniversary of the death of Jordan’s father Butchie, this song is a wonderful tribute and a universally relatable reminder carried over a memorable melody. Take the bad with the good, life’s moments and happenings are all very evanescent.
