Kelly Hunt “Dreamer”
Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Kelly Hunt’s song “Dreamer” from her forthcoming Requiem for a Sleepless Night, which will be out September 18 on Compass Records. The album was produced, recorded and mixed by Dirk Powell at The Cypress House in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana; and mastered by Eric Conn at Independent Mastering.
“Dreamer” is Kelly Hunt on vocals, acoustic guitar, banjo, and glockenspiel; Dirk Powell on vocals, mandolin, fiddle, accordion, electric & acoustic guitar, keyboards, banjo, percussion, bass, and glockenspiel; and Amelia Powell on harmony vocals.
As Kelly tells us about the song, “To be a dreamer is a marvelous thing. Every little thing in the world exists because someone once dreamed it into existence. The imagination is a wonderland of infinite possibility, and it’s a delight to escape to a place where the distractions and demands of the workaday world can’t reach you, where ideals can reign supreme. But the temptation to live there, in a waking dream, is a danger every dreamer likely faces from time to time. The trouble is, dwelling solely in “what ifs” comes at the cost of real life dreams coming true. I wrote this song during a bout of inertia, feeling as if life was passing me by. It is a call to action, an urging of self out of the stupor and back into the land of the living.”
This is a song of daydreams and reveries and the allure of the imagination, as Kelly Hunt gently lifts our spirits to the heights with her folksy easy soprano vocals. It serves its purpose and then, we must return to reality again. Good advice in a lovely song.
