Grant Maloy Smith “Go West Boys”
Americana Highways presents this premiere of Grant Maloy Smith’s song “Go West Boys” from his forthcoming album which is bundled with a hard cover book package: Wild West: American Stories, which is coming out on September 18th. The album was produced, arranged, engineered, and mixed by Grant Maloy Smith. This song will be available on July 10.
“Go West Boys” is Grant on lead vocals and guitar; Carrie McDowell on backing vocals; Scott Vestal on banjo; John Garland on bass; Billy Cardine on dobro; T.J. Samuels on drums; and Michael Cleveland on fiddle.
As Grant Maloy Smith tells us, “In the song “Go West Boys,” I tried to capture that tugging at the American spirit when the western frontier felt endless. Young men heard the clarion call and followed it into the unknown. Younger people were sick of the cities, and countless immigrants also came from Europe to build their lives anew in this brave new world. It was one of the most exciting times in American history.”
A little bit sinister and a lot foreboding, it’s a call to the heart to “go west, boys, go west young man.” Grant taps into the longing for freedom, wide open lands, and “love for every man” that the West represents in all of our collective unconscious. A nostalgic longing for freedom, good will, and adventure – timeless and relatable.
