Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of American Blonde’s song “Mississippi Moonshine” from their forthcoming album. It was produced by Lincoln Parish (Cage the Elephant) at Sienna Studios in Nashville, and engineered by Jordan Louge.

“Mississippi Moonshine” is played by the American Blonde band: Natalia Morris on lead vocals and acoustic guitar; Christina More i on vocals, drums, and percussion; Pete Horne on lead and rhythm guitars; Zach Dickerson on lead and rhythm guitars; and Will Garrett on bass and background vocals. Lincoln Parish also played organ.

As Nata and Tinka Morris told us, “‘Mississippi Moonshine’ really captures the direction we’ve been moving in, leaning heavier into our roots while pushing into a more rock-driven, live-energy sound. It’s bold, it’s honest, and it feels like the truest version of who we are right now.”

Nata added that “‘Mississippi Moonshine’ was born out of a dark, cinematic kind of inspiration. I got in the room with my longtime mentor Cliff Downs, and when he brought this swampy guitar lick and the line ‘Drownin’ your memory in Mississippi moonshine,’ I knew I was hooked. Little did he know, the night before I had watched a true crime documentary, and I couldn’t shake the weight of those real-life stories. We leaned into that energy and started building a fictional narrative around a woman who survives something traumatic, only to find out her abuser carried that darkness somewhere else. There’s this quiet tension in the song, like a warning or reckoning, without ever fully spelling out how it ends. We wanted it to feel raw, a little dangerous and unapologetically Southern. The swampy guitars, the grit and the attitude mirrors the fire that lives in the main character. It’s about reclaiming power, even in the shadows, and not asking for permission to do it. Cliff and I have always connected over songs that feel big, moody, and a little rebellious… and this one leans all the way into that world.”

Tinka also added “To me, Mississippi Moonshine just gives off a feeling of the type of community that we have back in our homeland of the Mississippi Delta: where everyone has your back and will do whatever it takes to protect one another to show that we don’t mess around and how much we truly fight to stand on our word and our business. I have personally always believed in and live by the phrase ‘an eye for an eye’ or ‘you get what you give,’ and this song definitely relates to me along with most others that were raised with a hardened delta spirit to be ready and willing go to extreme lengths to stand up for your loved ones in time of need.”

From the opening line “Drowning your memory in Mississippi moonshine”  to “I guess you found another fool to take care of you” to “I got a shotgun sitting right beside me in the passenger seat, can’t outrun a gunshot fired in the delta heat,” the tale of vengeance unfolds in a modern country rock buildup. An exciting and dangerous song by an exciting and energetic rootsy band.
