Jon Spear “Flying In My Dreams”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Jon SPear’s song “Flying In My Dreams” from his forthcoming album I’m Just Hanging On, which is set for release later this spring. The album was produced by Andrew Fritz Waldeck and mixed and mastered by Union Hill Recording in Amherst, Virginia.

“Flying In My Dreams” is Jon Spear on lead vocal, guitar, bass, and his grandfather’s 100-year-old Gibson mandolin.

“A lot of songwriters have explored flying as a metaphor for freedom and escape,” said Spear. “But my song has a twist – it’s about that moment when you realize your flying dreams have stopped. That premise — I don’t go flying in my dreams anymore — invites listeners to sit with a feeling they may recognize but rarely name. The restrained old-time instrumentation juxtaposed to lyrics about the more painful realities of our modern world combine to reinforce the overall nostalgic feel of the song.”

The weight of sorrows and losses that have accumulated over the years can pull even your dreams down. Jon Spear captures this downhearted realization poignantly here: “I don’t go flying in my dreams anymore.”
