Bill Scorzari “I Stayed”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Bill Scorzari’s song “I Stayed” from his forthcoming album Sidereal Days (Day 2). which is set for release on. Sidereal Days (Day 2) was produced by Bill Scorzari and Neilson Hubbard; recorded by Bill Scorzari at First Thunder Recording in Huntington, NY and by Dylan Alldredge at Skinny Elephant Recording in Nashville; mixed by Nic Coolidge at Dead Pop Studios in Providence, RI; and mastered by Hallie Melton in Nashville.

“I Stayed” is Bill Scorzari on lead vocals and acoustic guitar; Erin Rae on harmony vocals; Marie Lewey and Cindy Richardson Walker on backing vocals; Juan Solorzano on pedal steel; Danny Mitchell on piano and Hammond B3 organ; Chelsea McGough on cello; Eamon McLoughlin on violin; Michael Rinne on upright acoustic bass; and Neilson Hubbard on drums and percussion.

Bill says, “Erin Rae came into the recording studio in Nashville on August 21, 2024, and added a stunning 2nd vocal part to the conversation in ‘I Stayed.’ The list of performances on this track, in addition to my acoustic guitar and vocal and Erin’s vocal harmony/duet, includes Marie Lewey and Cindy Richardson Walker (a/k/a ‘The Shoals Sisters’) on backing vocals, Juan Solorzano on pedal steel, Danny Mitchell on piano and Hammond B3 organ, Chelsea McGough on cello, Eamon McLoughlin on fiddle, Michael Rinne on upright bass, and Co-Producer, Neilson Hubbard on drums and percussion. I really like how all of the instruments and voices have their own space and focus in this Nic Collidge mix, and how the addition of Erin’s vocal to the track creates another dynamic in the delivery of the story within the song, where the lines of the verses and choruses are shared. Sidereal Days (Day 2) is the 4th album I’ve recorded with Neilson and engineer, Dylan Alldredge, and it’s always great working with them. ‘I Stayed’ represents one of the many moods and directions of the 21 songs on the Sidereal Days (Day 1) & (Day 2) albums, and it was an easy choice for release as the first single from this new record.”

Bill can always be counted on to write the most heartfelt lyrics in the place. This one is about that feeling of being strung along in a relationship, and trying to find either a solution or the way out: “I didn’t throw small words your way. I was faithful and true to your dreams each day, and I didn’t turn and go. I stayed. I stayed. I stayed.” The harmony vocals by Erin Rae are a superlatively nice touch.
