Mike Finnigan “My Credit Didn’t Go Through”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Mike Finnigan’s song “My Credit Didn’t Go Through,” from his forthcoming posthumous self-titled album, which is set for release on March 20 via 40 Below Records. Mike Finnigan was produced, engineered and mixed by J.J. Blair (Johnny Cash, Melissa Etheridge). The song was originally written by General Johnson and Greg Perry for their group, The Chairmen of the Board, and more famously sung by Freddie King.

“My Credit Didn’t Go Through” is Mike Finnigan on keys and vocals; Stephen Stills and Chris Stills on vocals; James Gadson on drums; Bob Glaub on bass; Josh Sklair on guitar; Val McCallum on slide guitar; James McMillen on horn arrangements and trombone; Chris Tedesco on trumpet; Ron Dziubla on saxes; and
Nikki Leonti, Tom Polce and Windy Wagner on background vocals.

As Bonnie Raitt put it, “Mike Finnigan was a musical genius and one of the most powerful, virtuosic soul/gospel/blues singers and Hammond B3 players you’ll ever be blessed to hear. There was no one like him.”

This is classic, funky and groovy blues in a confident, powerful arrangement. The horns and saxophones sear, the rhythm pulses and the whole thing shines. “What am I gonna do? Car needs a tune up, Mama needs teeth, TV won’t play, The house roof leaks.”
