Could a bearded man in a pink suit toss you a coin and turn your world around? In this video for “Só Pra Variar,” it can. True to its title, which means “just for a change” in Portuguese, the video flashes a series of changes in a snappy, exciting milieu. Well worth both a watch and a listen, and whether or not you can follow along with the lyrics, the vibe shines through.
Growing up in Brazil, Raul Seixas was a huge influence on my first band with his use of humor and nonsense to disguise his criticism of politics, religion and the oppression of censorship happening in Brazil at the time. Almost 30 years later, recording “Só Pra Variar” felt like the perfect way to bring a piece of myself into Homegrown and it was, without a doubt, the most fun I’ve ever had in a studio session. The joy and energy in the room will stay with me forever. – Matheus Verardino
