Rosedale Junction Cornflakes and Coffee
Rosedale Junction has a new album Cornflakes and Coffee, full of big clean roots rock sounds, in songs about coping and survival that turn into merrymaking. All of this takes place with a talented backing band including Phil Madeira and Roger Smith of the Tower of Power on keys with Toby Soriero as the lead and front man. The songs on the album are a celebration of the simple life, and high spirited essential summertime music.
The title track features adept electric guitar melodies in a song about struggling to get by. The title image of corn flakes and coffee are ideal for covering just what it feels like some mornings.
On “Kentucky Corn Water” the pace is picked up more and it’s an ode to bourbon: “I know you do the best you can, nights are dark and nights are cold, but I’m still not that old.”
Fiddle makes a fiery entrance on “Digin’ Up the Turnips” and it’s a shindig for harvest time: “out in the fields, digin’ up the turnips til it’s dark as night.” The harmonica pulls some heavy weight on this summertime festival number.
“925 Pencil Pushin’ Blues” address the doldrums of a 9 to 5 desk job with a bluegrassy style tempo and it’s the perfect song to get you through the day. “No more conference calls, no more late nights, I’d rather run into traffic, and I’m wound up, wound up, wound up real tight.” Toby’s guitar playing really smokes.
All the songs on the album beckon you to a good time, and while they acknowledge life’s challenges it’s done with skilled electric melodies and musical flair. Find more details here on their website: https://rosedalejunction.com/home
