West Texas Exiles – “8000 Days”
Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of West Texas Exiles’ song “8000 Days,” the title track from their forthcoming album due out Sept. 12 via Floating Mesa Records. 8000 Days was recorded and produced at Studio 601 in Austin, Texas by Michael Ingber and Eric Harrison, mixed by Michael Ingber, and mastered by Pete Lyman at Infrasonic in Nashville. This song was released on Friday July 25 and is available everywhere streaming.
Musicians on “8000 Days” are Marco Gutierrez on vocals and lead guitar, Trinidad Leal on drums, Daniel Davis on lead vocals, keys, and acoustic guitar; Eric Harrison on bass and backing vocals; and Colin Gilmore (son of Jimmie Dale) on vocals, mandolin and guitar.
This video was produced by Chill Country Sessions, directed and edited by Harrison Chiu and Hermino Mendez. This song is chill and vibey, and the sky above the band as they play and drive under it is a striking hue of blue with occasional shades of pink that are simply breathtaking. Music lovers who crave a laid back Americana Texas hill country crossover vibe are going to love this one, it has everything all in just the right proportions: easygoing guitar, harmonica, and pleasantly vibrating harmonies. And it all takes place within the concept of 8,000 days in the desert – that’s a lot of time: “I spent 8000 days in the desert / Somehow I got away /Now I can’t go home.”
“8000 Days” is the lead track and the title of our debut full length album. “8000 Days” adds up to a little less than 21 years, and that’s close to the amount of time I lived in my hometown of El Paso, Texas before moving away to chase a life as a happy degenerate musician. At that age I was so eager to leave. After a year or so in Austin I began to realize the beauty of the home I left behind. Every time I headed back I tried to capture a feeling and a time that once was, and learned it can never be that way again. It’s a song about leaving, regret, and nostalgia. – Marco Gutierrez, West Texas Exiles
