Fox Run Five – “Holding Out Hope”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Fox Run Five’s song “Holding Out Hope,” featuring the late Tom Prasada-Rao, which is the title track from their forthcoming album set for release on September 12. The album was produced and recorded by Fox Run Five at Fox Run Studio in Sudbury, MA, with post production and mixing by Matt Nakoa and Neale Eckstein, and mastering by Jonathan Wyner. String Arrangements were by Matt Nakoa.

“Holding Out Hope” is Neale Eckstein on vocals and guitars; Jagoda on vocals, drums, and percussion; Matt Nakoa on vocals, keys, guitars, bass, and trombone; Tom Prasada-Rao on vocals, keys, guitars, bass, and violin; and Eric Schwartz on vocals, keys, guitars, bass, and flute. The strings are Sarah Whitney on 1st violin; Justin Ouellet on 2nd violin; Jason Amos on viola; and Rafael Popper-Keizer on cello.

Neale Eckstein says “Each of us brought unique strengths to the mix—as writers, singers, technicians, instrumentalists, and in one case, a certain spiritual glue. That was Tom Prasada-Rao. Tom said, “Yes”. Sometimes, when one of us would pitch an idea, egos (or whiskey) would get in the way. It was Tom who saw the good in these ideas and called us back to the table. Some of our strongest songs began this way.

“Five years ago, Tom was diagnosed with a disease that would take him in June of 2024.
Over this time, Tom helped to prepare us for his loss with his growing grace and
gratitude.

“In the summer of 2023, Tom was too sick to join the writing retreat. We wrote and
recorded “Don’t Wait” as Tom was in surgery.

“Fox Run Five came together one last time, meeting at Tom‘s home in Maryland,
where we penned our final song “This Is How We Say Goodbye” just three weeks
before Tom left us. “What can we do to help you, Tom?” “Let’s write ourselves a song.”
We did. It was the last we would write together.

“We are proud of this project. It contains songs of many styles and sentiments, most of
which we recorded live, and all of which we are excited to share with you. We are
grateful that you have chosen to listen.”

The studio footage for this song is a joy to watch, including when Tom Prasada-Rao steps up to the mic. It’s honesty and joy rolled into one sweet song.
