Bill Scorzari – “All This Time”
Americana Highways is hosting the premiere of Bill Scorzari’s song “All This Time” (out June 6) from his forthcoming album Sidereal Days (Day 1) set for release on October 17. Sidereal Days (Day 1) was produced by Bill Scorzari and Neilson Hubbard; mixed by Nic Coolidge at Dead Pop Studio in Providence, RI; and mastered by Hallie Melton in Nashville. The album was recorded at First Thunder Recording in Huntington, NY by Bill Scorzari, with additional recording at Skinny Elephant Recording by Dylan Alldredge.
“All This Time” is Bill Scorzari on vocals and nylon stringed classical guitar; Juan Solorzano on 2nd acoustic guitar and pedal steel; Neilson Hubbard on drums and percussion; Eamon McLoughlin on violin; Chelsea McGough on cello; Mike Rinne on acoustic bass; and Danny Mitchell on piano.
Speaking of the song, Bill says, “The first descriptor that surfaced from my mind’s well of paradoxical statements concerning the writing of “All This Time” is that it was an effortless endeavor. Another is that it is “just a simple love song.” Ultimately, simplicity is honesty, and love in its purest form is a simple thing often best expressed in the simplest of ways. Take for example, Joe Cocker’s “You Are So Beautiful.”
“Using just 18 words in the entire lyric, and melody, the song is in every sense stunningly ‘complete, and captures and conveys pure emotion in all of its complexity and intensity. There’s no way that I’ve found, to “plan for” or to “make” that happen when writing. The most insight I’ve gathered is that, when you are in the pursuit of it, simplicity can become elusive, that it is therefore best left to its own devices, and that you just need to be open to it happening and to be present for it when it does. When I wrote “All This Time,” I had no pre-set notions regarding in which direction or to what end I might “take” the writing session, and I did not know what, if anything would come from it. I had simply set out to write “a song.” Not a love song, not a simple song, just “a song,” whatever it might or might not be.
“Unfettered by any determination or conscious agenda on my part, “All This Time” is what followed, quickly revealing itself in its entirety, in just one brief sitting. When I brought the song to the Nashville recording sessions, we let its simplicity guide the arrangement for the final recording. The musicians performing with me on this track have appeared on several of my previous album releases and it’s always a sublime pleasure to record with them.
” With the vocal, two acoustic guitars, pedal steel, violin, cello, acoustic upright bass, and light drums/percussion tracks echoing and supporting the melody and lyrical content, it’s a song that, in its simplicity, is true to its own essence and is complete. So much so that I decided to make it the opening track of the 1st album of this 2-album release titled, Sidereal Days (Day 1).
Like a fine French wine, Bill Scorzari just keeps getting better as time goes by. His vocals are vulnerable and as honest as his musical forms of expression. Lovely and enjoyable.
