MoonShroom – “Party on the Moon”
Americana Highways brings you this premiere of MoonShroom’s song “Party on the Moon” from their forthcoming album Take a Trip, which is slated for release this June. This song, however, will be available on May 2, and was co-written by Lily B Moonflower & Jake Keegan. Take a Trip was produced, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Joel Nanos at Element Recording.
“Party on the Moon” is Lily B Moonflower on vocals and acoustic guitar; Jake Keegan on harmony vocals and dobro; Colby Allen Walter on harmony vocals and electric guitar; Zach Bozeman on bass; Stas’ Heaney on fender rhodes; Nate Deel on drums; and Mark Hamblin on trumpet and saxophone. The video was directed By Drew Ames, produced by Coin in a Log Studios, and filmed at both Cap Gun Studios & Knuckleheads Kansas City.
MoonShroom is based in Lawrence, Kansas, and there is a touch of heartland rock here in their old-timey twang mix. This is one of those summertime, jamband festival songs, hitting the bulls-eye on capturing the heights of what a party on the moon would be. Lots of interweaving and euphoria make this simply irresistible. The video footage is pure joy.
Sometimes life feels like slow moving drudgery. It gets monotonous, and at times there’s negativity that can’t be escaped. Whether it’s the news, your job, or relationship getting you down; there’s times it feels like a drag. That is part of what’s so beautiful about the live music scene, and music festivals. Music is a portal to another world, far away from your problems, and the everyday struggle. For a brief moment in time, all the other complications that cloud our experience are lifted, as we are transported into another dimension, free of all the bullshit. It is a magical release to surrender to the experience of a live music event, and allow yourself to be lost in the music. It is healing, and the mutual symbiosis between the crowd and the entertainers is often palpable. There is nothing quite like it. We feel that everybody needs a taste of that from time to time. Lily came up with the concept of ‘Party on the Moon’, and I immediately had ideas and melodies orbiting in my head. I heard her voice tear through the cosmos, along with a heavenly horn section, belting the chorus of Party on the Moon, and we worked together to write and arrange the song. All of the musicians on the track really knocked it out of the park. For this recording, we aimed for the party to build infinitely towards a climax, until cosmic musical confetti, shot out of the cannon, comes raining down. By the end of the track, all emotions and music were left on the floor, and the only thing to do is bask in it. It feels like there was a joyful celebration that just went down in your ear holes. There’s a big party on the moon, and everyone is invited! – Jake Keegan and Lily B Moonflower
