Amanda Shaw – “Bad”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Amanda Shaw’s song (written by Fred LeBlanc of Cowboy Mouth) “Bad,” from Amanda’s forthcoming album. “Bad” was recorded at Sound Stage Studios and in Kent Wells Productions in Nashville. It was produced by Kent Wells (Dolly Parton) with photography by Libby Danforth and artwork by Reno Bo.

“Bad” is Amanda Shaw on fiddle and vocals; Steve Brewster on drums; Steve Mackey on bass; Jerry McPherson on electric guitar; Dane Bryant on keys; and Scotty Sanders on steel guitar.

Amanda is a Louisiana Music Hall of Fame fiddler now based in Nashville, and with this song written by Fred LeBlanc and performed in a Cajun style with flourishes of fiddle, it takes a stance on empowerment and getting back in the game. The motif is relatable and the arrangement is musically thrilling: “I’m gonna be bad / And it’s gonna feel good / I’m gonna do everything your mother said we never should / I’m gonna be bad / And I want to do wrong / You’re gonna be every broken heart / Inside of my every song.”

I’ve been a fan of Cowboy Mouth and Fred LeBlanc for a long time, so it’s been great to collaborate with him on ‘Bad.’ When Fred pitched me the song I instantly knew it was something I’d love to record and perform live. Kent Wells did an amazing job bringing that signature New Orleans sound to life, and he really challenged me to step outside my comfort zone vocally.

I also love the theme of the song. It’s interesting because while it’s written by a man, as a woman delivering it, I get to explore the idea of reclaiming your life after a breakup. It’s about getting back out there, embracing your freedom, and enjoying being a woman. That’s a really cool and empowering vibe to bring to the stage. —Amanda Shaw
