Rachel Kane – “Never Said Goodbye”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Rachel Kane’s song “Never Said Goodbye” from her forthcoming album Holler at the Wind. The album was produced by Adam Fainman (Beatox), mixed by David Woodhead, and mastered by Harris Newman.

Musicians on the song are Rachel Kane on vocals and guitar; Adam Fainman on beatboxing (vocal percussion) and percussion; Michael Jerome Browne on banjo and fiddle; Sean Burke on bass; and David Woodhead on synthesizers.

This video was produced by Rachel’s son Beatox. This song honors Rachel’s father who has passed on, and the ache and the grieving and the things you can’t have back or change. Rachel has an otherworldly vocal tone that lends a degree of profundity and spirituality to the arrangement, while the instruments also carry a degree of weight and a touch of darkness. “Good-bye, good-bye, I never said good-bye.”

Like all fathers, he’s the man I’ve loved the longest,” said Rachel Kane. “He gave me my first guitar, helped me with my homework, especially math. I loved listening to the sound of his voice as he explained problems to me. His enthusiasm for math sparked my love for the melody and rhythm found in the human voice. He gave me many happy memories. I should write a happier tune about him but was angry at myself for being unable to say goodbye. I wonder why we remember most the sting of regret rather than the moments of joy. I should meditate on that.”
