Diane Coll – “Sugar”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Diane Coll’s song “Sugar” from her forthcoming album Up From the Mud, which is set to release on January 7.  The album was produced by Daniel Groover, Diane Coll, with one track produced by Jonny Daly and Diane Coll. It was recorded and mixed by Daniel Groover of Blue Door Studios in Atlanta, and mastered by Corey Stocker

“Sugar” is Diane Coll on vocals, acoustics, and keys; and Daniel Groover on drums/percussion, bass, and electric guitar.

This is a fun take on reclaiming power back and shifting expectations toward others to be kind or be gone. I originally wrote this song on ukulele and thought it might be one of those throwaway songs that would never see the light of day. Well, I guessed wrong because this song consistently gets a positive response during performances. I think it does strike a universal chord amid such divisive times. And, being so close to Halloween, who doesn’t have sugar on their mind? – Diane Coll

A beat that will surely motivate you sets up this plea for kindness:  “these cranberries are tart on my tongue, though they look fine … can you try to find it in your heart this time and give a little sugar for me.”  We could all use a little sugar sometimes to balance out the lemons in our lives, and Diane sets up a simple solution that’s nice to listen to, and think about.
