The Wildwoods – “Postcards From Somewhere”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of The Wildwoods’ song “Postcards From Somewhere” from their forthcoming album.  “Postcards From Somewhere” was recorded at Goosenest Studio in Lincoln, Nebraska, mixed and mastered by Noah Gose, and produced by The Wildwoods.

“Postcards From Somewhere” is Chloe Gose on vocals; Noah Gose on vocals, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar (slide); and Andrew Vaggalis on bass and harmony vocals.  Slide guitar and a languid pace set the stage for this homesick, regretful lonesome tune from the road, where the traveler is hoping to hear from the one who’s anchoring things back home. “I’ll send you a postcard from somewhere, somewhere that I don’t belong… I’ll send you a drawing of places I go, wherever I’ll be, you’ll always know. You’re the part of me that aches to be found.”

“Postcards from Somewhere” is a love song to our hometown of Lincoln, Nebraska, which has always been our anchor. We spent our younger years playing music in its small venues, walking its streets, soaking up its mix of old and new. It’s home—not just as a place, but in the way it makes us feel grounded and connected. There’s no sense of ‘home’ while touring. Being confined to a vehicle for 4-8 hours each day, sleeping somewhere different every night, and living out of a duffel bag makes us truly appreciate the small windows of time we do get to spend at home. We’ve played a few times now, and it’s resonated with people in a way that surprised us. I think it’s because the song taps into something we all feel at times—the pull between stepping out of your comfort zone and just wanting to sit in that comfort for a while. “Postcards from Somewhere” isn’t just about being homesick. It’s about trying to make sense of that homesickness, about the push and pull between the excitement of the journey and the need for something familiar. It’s about sending out little pieces of yourself, hoping they find their way back to the people and places you love. And it’s about realizing that no matter how far you go, home will always be waiting for you, in every song you play and every note you sing. – Noah Gose
