Americana Highways presents this premiere of Jared McCloud’s song “A Kind of Love That Will Tear You Apart” from his forthcoming album Vacancy, which is slated for release on September 6. Vacancy was produced by Kevin Bowe and Jared McCloud; mixed by Kevin Bowe; and mastered by Bruce Templeton.
“A Kind of Love” is Jared McCloud on rhythm and lead guitars, and vocals; Kevin Bowe on bass and backing vocals; Ian Prince on drums; Tommy Barbella on organ; and Calie Soucy-McCloud on backing vocal. A snappy beat and organ put this into a heartland rock ballpark while Jared thumbs his nose as he closes the door on a love gone wrong. Vocal harmonies in 60s rock style are a power move away from any hint of being pulled under by the subject matter: “Mine’s a kind of love that’ll tear you apart.”
This song is a send off to a rough time in my life- and it could have been loud and angry or a slow “woe-is-me” ballad, but I felt like making it a pop song kind of made it different. I like the juxtaposition of the subject and the jangly, bubblegum vibe. I just think it paints a cooler picture. Plus that drum beat in the beginning grabs your attention. I knew when I wrote this song it was going to start the record- whatever the record was going to be. – Jared McCloud
