Steve Forbert – “Purple Toyota”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of Steve Forbert’s song “Purple Toyota,” from his forthcoming release Daylight Savings Time, which will be released on August 16, via Blue Rose Music “Purple Toyota” will be available on July 12.  Daylight Savings Time was produced by Steve Greenwell at Lakehouse Studios, and mixed at Greenwell’s in Asbury Park, NJ with executive producer Joe Poletto. It was mastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound in Nashville.

“Purple Toyota” is Steve Forbert on vocals, acoustic guitar, and harmonica; Rob Clores (The Black Crowes) on keyboards; Gurf Morlix on electric guitar; Aaron Comess (Spin Doctors) on drums; Byron House (Dolly Parton) on bass; and Layonne Holmes on backing vocals.

This video was filmed in Asbury Park, filmed by George McMorrow and edited by Andy Firkus.  Lots of brightly colored older style cars, park behind Steve as he plays his acoustic guitar. As he sings about the drab colors of cars today, it sparks a consideration of living a brightly colored life: “If you’d like a real life, something you can feel life, find a better deal life, keep on switching lanes.”  In this Steve showcases his nimble songwriting craft.

“Purple Toyota is a true story of being inspired by seeing a purple, new Toyota which led to commenting on the dull colors of most all cars on the roads of today. These drab, low key automobiles have been the norm for decades now. – Steve Forbert
