KJ Denhert – “Esmerelda”

Americana Highways is hosting this video premiere of KJ Denhert’s song “Esmerelda,” a song from her forthcoming album The Evening News, which is due to be available on March 29.  The Evening News was produced by KJ Denhert and Adam Armstrong; recorded by Dave Stoller at Samurai Studios; and mixed by Ben Rubin and Ken Freeman with additional editing by Chris Sulit.  It was mastered by Steve Vavagiakis of Bang Zoom Productions.

“Esmerelda” is KJ Denhert on voice and guitar; Nicki Denner on piano; Adam Armstrong on bass; Eric Halvorson on drums; and Mark McIntyre on electric guitar.

This video was produced by Lew Stiefel of LewTubeTv, with lighting by Oscar Portillo and technical direction by Al Saunders. The stage crew hand was Angel Torres with theater manager Karina Ringeisen. Roger Keene was the production manager.

There are plucked strings in the silent darkness and a touch of jazz accents the song with hands playing the snare.  In the video, KJ is there onstage in white light.  Sometimes we take someone for granted and we only realize their true depth much later. KJ crafts this gratitude into a song that’s so descriptive we can feel Esmerelda’s friendship. “6 feet tall and the envy of all, thank you for breaking my fall.”

The song “Esmerelda” is about a great friend that I made in college – “she laughed at my jokes” but my life wasn’t always that funny and she was there when I needed a friend even more than I realized. I learned so much from her about kindness. – KJ Denhert
