The High Hawks – “Temperature is Rising”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of the High Hawks’ song “Temperature is Rising” from their forthcoming album Mother Nature’s Show. The album was produced by the High Hawks with executive producer Jim Brooks; mixed by Don Sternecker and Tim Carbone; and mastered by Bruce Templeton.  Album design was courtesy of Brian Flower Designs. The album was primarily recorded by Nick Tveitbakk with additional recording by Todd Divel and Tim Carbone.

“Temperature is Rising” is Tim Carbone (Railroad Earth) on lead vocals, electric guitar and acoustic guitar; Vince Herman (Leftover Salmon) on electric guitar; Adam Greuel (Horseshoes & Hand Grenades) on electric guitar and background vocals; Chad Staehly (Hard Working Americans) on Wurlitzer, organ, and Mellotron; Brian Adams (Taxi) on bass; and Will Trask (Taxi) on drums and percussion.

Swaggery roots rock launches this probe into the confusion and conflict that we experience with the uncontrolled experiment we all live within – social media.  The High Hawks suggest that we stop immediately jumping into the fray that leaves us wondering “if a friend is a friend.”  But “we all hold a crooked mirror.” Maybe we should take a step back and listen first.  This is all carried on the back of a casual electric rock melody.

The song started with just the music. I came upon the line ‘the temperature’s rising’ as I was blurting out random words. I thought about it for a few minutes and essentially wrote the rest in about an hour or so. The same thing happened with the chorus. “Hold on” just came out after we came up with chorus chords. I realized it might be cool to put a compassionate, positive shade on the “topical” colors in the verses. Social media has turned into a poison and it’s played a large part in the disconnect and dissonance in our society. “The Temperature Is Rising” tries to chronicle and address that. – Tim Carbone
