David Steinhart – “It’s Just Not Set Up That Way”

Americana Highways is hosting this premiere of David Steinhart’s song “It’s Just Not Set Up That Way” from his forthcoming album Released, which is due to be available on January 10. Released was produced, mixed and mastered by Alfonso Rodenas in Malibu California.

“It’s Just Not Set Up That Way” is David Steinhart on vocals and guitar; Eduardo Tancredi on drums; Paul Nelson on electric guitar; Jeff Steinhart on bass; and Will Gramling on piano and keys.

This song by David Steinhart delivers life’s most difficult truth: “I won’t see you again, I’m sure of it, It’s just not set up that way.”  Easygoing and breezy, with an innovative structure, he drives the point home with velvet gloves, and it’s a great taste of the album to come.

This song has a different structure than most of my songs. Instead of a verse/chorus/bridge structure, this song has more of a tag line that it opens and closes each verse with, almost like a blues song, though the chord structure is definitely not blues inspired. The lyric came to me very quickly after my father passed. I had the thought that no matter how much I loved and revered him, I was not going to see him again. There’s a bit of a spiritual bent to some of the songs I’ve written about friends that have passed. When my dad died, I felt strangely grounded in the here and now. – David Steinhart
