Panama Wedding – Matt Krahula “Oh Me Oh My”

Americana Highways brings you this premiere of Panama Wedding performing Matt Krahula’s song “Oh Me Oh My” from the almost- 12 year anniversary album Last Goodbye 11, a collection of artist reimagining the Nightmare River Band’s album Last Goodbye.

Krahula, who plays bass with Hawaiian artist Henry Kapono, admired Kapono’s The Songs of C&K, for which he’d requested younger-generation artists to send songs from Kapono’s songs with Cecilio & Kapono. The artists performed on their interpretations of the songs. Being in Hawaii made face-to-face recordings virtually impossible, so Matt asked for artists living elsewhere across the expanse of oceans to send in their own productions.

Last Goodbye 11 will be released on June 14. The album “Last Goodbye 11″ was executively produced by Matt Krahula, mixed and mastered by Jonathan Jetter.  This song,”Oh Me Oh My,” was produced by Peter Kirk. “Oh Me Oh My” was engineered and arranged by Peter Kirk, of Panama Wedding. All instruments were performed by Peter Kirk.  Bright and catchy, this modernized version of the song still remains true to the song’s core intent: “when I was young I had a shoebox and some rubber bands to call my guitar….I didn’t know if it was wrong or right but I still had fun.”

When Matt presented me the idea of re-recording one of the songs from “Last Goodbye”, I was immediately drawn to “Oh Me Oh My”  because of its simple but powerful chorus. It draws on nostalgic themes that I think we can all relate to.” (Peter Kirk of Panama Wedding)

I was so excited when Peter, aka Panama Wedding, agreed to be part of this project. He is such an incredibly talented songwriter and musician.  He was the only artist that surprised me with his song choice. The original version of the tune is so rootsy and I’ve been hearing it that  way for over a decade. I had no idea what to expect. Well, his re-imagination of this tune couldn’t have turned out any better. It is so fun and full of energy.  It brings a huge smile to my face every time I hear it. Thank you Peter!” (Matt Krahula)
