Jake Leg – “Have Mercy”
Americana Highways is premiering this song by the Jake Leg bluegrass band, “Have Mercy,” from their forthcoming album. “Have Mercy” was written by Dylan McCarthy; produced by Jake Leg with assistance from Chris Pandolfi; engineered and mixed by Eric Wiggs at Vermillion Road Studios; and mastered by Anna Frick at Ally Sound. Album artwork was created by Adam Burke of Nightjar Illustration and the cover design is by Justin Hoffenberg.
“Have Mercy” is Eric Wiggs on guitar and vocals; Dylan McCarthy on mandolin and vocals; Justin Hoffenberg on fiddle; and Bradley Morse on bass. Jake Leg is a vibrant bluegrass band with improvisational and powerful playing style and timeless songwriting. This song is a case in point. “The night before we met, I tried to drink myself to sleep, just staring at the wall, counting regrets instead of sheep.” But just around the corner was a new beginning. “Have mercy on me while I try to get this right.” Amen. Great song. Lively playing.
I’ve always sort of struggled with writing love songs but “Have Mercy” came pretty naturally. I was reflecting on the circumstances around how my wife and I met, the theme of the song is that love will find you whether you’re ready for it or not, and it’s up to you to choose what to do with it. – Dylan McCarthy
