jackrabbit at TCAN, Natick Massachusetts May 26, 2026

jackrabbit (small j) opened their 2026 tour and delivered an engaging and warmly unpretentious performance at TCAN last night, blending Americana, folk-rock, and roots music into a set that felt well suited for the intimate room atmosphere. Much of the evening’s appeal came from the easy chemistry between the band members, particularly actor and musician Dermot Mulroney, alongside his brother Kieran in the group.

For anyone arriving curious about Mulroney’s Hollywood connection, the show quickly made clear that this is no celebrity vanity project. He settled naturally into the band’s sound, contributing rhythm guitar, vocals, and relaxed stage presence without ever pulling focus from the ensemble. Kieran contributed electric lead and rhythm guitar thoughout the evening, and the emphasis remained squarely on the songs and on the family-like camaraderie that gave the performance its understated charm..

jackrabbit’s material draws heavily from classic American roots traditions, with echoes of country-rock, heartland rock, and acoustic folk woven throughout the set. The band favored clean, straightforward arrangements built around layered guitars, strong harmonies, and melodies that rocked more than one would expect. TCAN’s acoustics highlighted those details beautifully.

The set included some surprises, the most interesting being a cover of “Spanish Eyes”, made popular by Engelbert Humperdinck, performed without tongue-in-cheek. Several mid-tempo songs featured especially appealing vocal interplay, while the more upbeat numbers injected welcome energy into the room. The guitar work between the Mulroney brothers often anchored the arrangements, creating a relaxed rhythmic flow that kept the songs moving even when the pacing occasionally drifted toward the laid-back side.

Between songs, the band maintained an easygoing rapport with the audience, sharing stories and jokes that added to the informal feel of the evening. Nothing about the performance felt rehearsed for effect; instead, the show carried the comfortable looseness of musicians who genuinely enjoy playing together. That authenticity became one of the concert’s greatest strengths.

By the end of the night, the crowd at TCAN seemed fully won over by the band’s modest, song-centered approach. jackrabbit may not rely on flashy moments or oversized personalities, but last night’s performance demonstrated the appeal of well-crafted roots music played with heart, skill, and genuine connection.F
