Americana Highways is pleased to première a video by Taylor Martin: “Little Pictures,” from his forthcoming album Song Dogs (Little King Records) produced by Amanda Anne Platt of the Honeycutters in Chapel Hill, NC.

The song “Little Pictures” is a call to put down our smartphones and live out loud; with Matthew Smith of the Honeycutters on guitar, Josh Shilling on piano, and rhythm section Richie Jones and Matthew Dufon backing Martin.  The song rings instantly familiar and simplifies a complex message in clear lyrical fashion, over catchy, punchy, piano-prominent rhythms. The video for this song was shot in three different locations to capture the right vibe, and co-stars a selfie-obsessed girlfriend who’s clearly missing everything, gazing at herself in her sequined evening dress out at the lake.  The whole lyrical tale is shown over tom beats and jangly piano with Martin’s gritty vocal tones delivering the truth.

I wrote ”Little Pictures” about the general overuse of cellphones and its effects on empathy or lack there of it these days. We filmed it the video in Monroe, Little 5 Points, and Atlanta Ga. I really think it’s an important message to get across and we did that in a very swampy, blues and rhythmic way. The piano playing tips a hat at one of my heroes, Professor Longhair, while the tom filled rhythm section keeps people moving and hopefully thinking too!!!!  — Taylor Martin
