Video Premiere: Triggers and Slips’ “The Stranger”

Listen & Watch Video Premieres

Americana Highways brings you this video premiere of Triggers and Slips’ title track from their recent release The Stranger. The Stranger was recorded at Man vs. Music in Salt Lake City, UT; mixed by Mike Sasich, and produced by Triggers & Slips and Mike Sasich. “The Stranger” is Morgan Snow on acoustic guitar and vocals; John Davis on electric guitar and vocals; Greg Midgley on piano and organ; Tommy Mortensen on upright bass; Page McGinnis on electric guitar; Eric Stoye and Nate Barkdull on drums.

The video was directed, edited and filmed by Salt Lake City filmmaker and professor Stan Clawson. The video used 1980’s style techniques including neon, split screens, Jedi Masters with light sabres. The actors are: the Band; the Jedi Master is a writer and journalist at the Salt Lake Tribune who is a friend of the band, Jeremy Harmon, and joined after responding to a Facebook request for people who have 80’s cosplay costumes.  The punk girl on the sidewalk is Salt Lake City glass artist Rainbow Morgan; and Baby is played by a real life fake baby and all of the extras are friends of the band.

The song, “The Stranger,” was written by Morgan Snow in his hometown of Salt Lake City, Utah 8 years ago.  The hypnotic anxiety of the song’s psychedelic launch quickly arcs into a full fledged honky tonk, barroom rollick.  Triggers & Slips’ new album is a shindig and a reflection all rolled into one.  And the video is a throwback delight.

Much like my life, this song wrote me. It took me several years since writing it for me to see how much it was really influenced by my shadow. — Morgan Snow
